However, I think this is different than causing autoimmune diseases. In many cases, viral infections are even worse at triggering autoimmune infections, and if we have certain breeds that are increasingly susceptible to autoimmune disease, perhaps we should avoid inbreeding them so extensively. I am familiar with Jean Dodds, and frankly have not been impressed. After looking at Dr. Schoenfelds work, it is indeed interesting, but seems to have a tenuous relationship at best to veterinary vaccines and purebred dogs. Do you have any specific references in mind?Bartimaeushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04041170926124714639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377960011681266299.post-10039204340950178792016-02-27T19:34:37.523-08:002016-02-27T19:34:37.523-08:00I am going to ask you to read Dr. Yehuda schoenfel...I am going to ask you to read Dr. Yehuda schoenfelds research. In our use of the vaccine, we saw poor immunization resulting in post-vaccine infection and returned to the traditional modified live vaccine. The issue of the subunit vaccine being useful to avoid interference with a PCR test was never an issue, since IDEXX has a quantitative PCR for distemper. The emergence of quantitative PCR tests for other viruses will be a significant improvement in diagnosis, and hopefully will lead to an admission that SNAP tests do run the risk of failing in specificity for a recently vaccinated dog.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03026328784570862307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377960011681266299.post-65895708281749786442013-05-13T15:30:41.438-07:002013-05-13T15:30:41.438-07:00I agree. The side canyon the battle was fought across is not that precipitous, easy to walk down into it and out again in several places. the last 200 yards or so is quite steep where it joins the canyon of East Clear Creek. That canyon is partly filled with water now, but I have been into it in many places, and while there are some cliffs and dangerously steep places, there are a lot of places to get in and out as well. I think Phil Plait debunked the idea that you can ever find a deep enough hole to see stars during the middle of the day, although it was a common claim in the 19th century, and still pops up occasionally. If you can get hold of a copy, Al Seiber, Chief of Scouts by Dan Thrapp has the best account of the battle I have read.Bartimaeushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04041170926124714639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377960011681266299.post-63020837278656614692013-04-02T09:26:07.200-07:002013-04-02T09:26:07.200-07:00Thanks for the photos. It is perfectly fine to feed them commercial kibble however. The San Diego Zoo is an excellent zoo, and has the money and expertise to make sure their kitchens produce balanced diets (note the mention of calcium and phosphorous ratios, etc. in the link you provided). Most pet owners and small zoos do not have the resources that the San Diego Zoo does, and may be better off with kibble than a potentially inadequate diet. And again, there is good reason to use bones, and some meat to provide behavioral enrichment for many carnivores. It is true that wild animals are exposed to a harsher environment than those in captivity. Part of that includes inconsistent and sometimes poor nutrition. Also my article did not claim that wolves in captivity are never fed raw meat, but that it was not necessary for their longevity. It is possible to feed a good raw diet to carnivores, but it is more difficult than feeding commercial food, and exposes the animals to some of the same risks (infection, damaged teeth, etc.) that shorten their lives in the wild. Perhaps the published information from zoo veterinarians, nutrition specialists and biologists might carry a little more weight than a volunteer posting on Reddit?Bartimaeushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04041170926124714639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377960011681266299.post-33560589736822176722012-08-10T15:33:46.758-07:002012-08-10T15:33:46.758-07:00This is the most rediculous article I ever read.
